EpitalonThe care questions

Questions an epitalon search leaves open

Is epitalon approved or allowed?

Has the US drug agency approved it? Can a pharmacy make it to order? These are separate questions. Here is what the US record says.

Is there an approved US medicine?

The US drug agency (FDA) had approved no epitalon medicine in the record checked September 28, 2026. There were no official US instructions for doctors explaining its use and warnings.

Can a pharmacy make it to order?

Compounding means making a medicine to order. This is often done because a ready-made medicine cannot meet a particular need.

Making a medicine to order does not give it FDA approval. That remains true as of September 2026.

The pharmacy law checks the raw ingredient—the substance used to make a medicine—in this order:

  • Are there official written rules for that ingredient’s quality? If so, the ingredient must meet them.
  • If no official written quality rules exist, does an FDA-approved medicine contain this ingredient?
  • If neither applies, has the FDA listed this ingredient among those allowed for making medicines to order?

For epitalon, the September 2026 records show no such written quality rules. No FDA-approved medicine contains epitalon as an ingredient. It is also absent from that allowed list.

These records do not show a legal way for an ordinary pharmacy to make epitalon from raw ingredients as of September 2026.

Did the FDA give new permission?

People had asked FDA to consider epitalon for its list of ingredients used to make medicines to order. They took those requests back. FDA’s page dated April 22, 2026 still shows its safety concerns beside epitalon.

Withdrawing a request gives a pharmacy no permission to make the medicine.

Before a July 2026 meeting, FDA staff recommended keeping epitalon off that ingredient list.

The FDA had not yet published an official record of the panel’s vote on epitalon by September 28, 2026.

That panel gives advice; its vote alone does not change the rule.
