EpitalonThe care questions

Questions an epitalon search leaves open

Does the longer-life claim hold up?

A hopeful headline can skip over the substance that was tested. Start there.

What did the longer-life research test?

The older reports about people living longer used epithalamin, a mixture taken from a gland in cattle brains. Sometimes researchers used it with another mixture taken from a gland.

Epitalon and epithalamin are different substances. A result for the cattle-gland mixture does not tell us what epitalon does.

The US drug agency’s (FDA’s) July 2026 review found no study of epitalon in people that measured how long they lived.

What about the cell findings?

Researchers have reported longer telomeres—protective tips inside cells—in human cells grown in a dish.

That finding concerns cells grown in a lab. It does not show a benefit in a person.

FDA’s July 2026 review raised a possible cancer risk because of how epitalon may act in cells. It did not report a person getting cancer from epitalon.

Did mice live longer?

In the published mouse study, average lifespan stayed the same, while the longest-lived animals lived somewhat longer.

That animal result does not show that epitalon extends human life.

Try asking: Which substance did they test? Was it tested in people, animals or cells in a dish? What did they measure?

The summary of the study using the cattle-gland mixture

The study tested epithalamin, the mixture taken from cattle glands. It did not test epitalon.

Reports the unchanged average lifespan alongside other findings.
